For proof, one need look no further than 26-year-old Dallas native Quinn Mason.įascinated by a toy keyboard as a toddler, by age ten Mason was an avid listener of his local classical radio station and could identify melodies from famous works immediately. And while it may be tempting to assume that young artists of such brilliance existed only in bygone centuries, the reality is that young minds, drawn intensely to music as a mode of expression and possessed with extraordinary skill, do still live among us. Mozart, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saëns and Chopin were all composing before the age of 10, and produced mature works while still teenagers. Music history is rich with the stories of extraordinary young people possessed with prodigious musical talent.
